Back on track after a proper strop!!
I know that I’ve said that I’m back before but after this weekend and today... I AM.... in that time he’s been my employer, sponsor, manager and long term GOOD friend... compared to America I was layered up, three in total!!... I felt like a small child looking in the window of a sweet shop...that didn’t matter... I QUIT!!!

The day it all went wrong
both mine and Sean’s days very nearly came to an abrupt end... We’d planned to be New Orleans for sat night (156 miles)... “you not brining your lid then!!!”... we rode side by side every now and then for a little chat... jokes where coming out we were in high spirits having a laugh together and enjoying the day again.... weirdest/loudest crunching crashing banging kind of sound followed by the most painful scream yell and shout but with surprise pain and discomfort all at the same time..

Time to have a word with myself
I’ve had my head wedges firmly in my arse... should I just disappear??.... I got a new bike and new helmet... well she put me right anyway, she took me back to the big “C” and put me straight on a number of things... My nurses have told me since that when I first got to ward 21 they didn’t think I would be with them long and that wasn’t due to a speedy recovery!!

An Update from Sean – Wednesday 28th July
However, what I was not expecting was for them to remove my catheter. I'd had it for just over two weeks and it automatically emptied my bladder without me knowing. My concern was would I be able to go on my own? Would I know when to go or would I end up wetting myself?!.....................................It has just been over six days since my back operation and I have not had a proper "bowel movement" so I was feeling extremely bloated

I actually don’t feel great.... the abandoned feeling.... I felt like I was in a place of pure harmony..... People have said I’m like a cat, if that’s the case then I’ve got 6 lives left and as long as I loose them smiling and trying to make a difference to the lives of others then ROCK ON!!!

Donation challenge 18 for 18 … why 18 I hear you ask…
The number 18 is a special number, in Hebrew letters it's spelt the same as the number 'chai' which means 'life'.

Who will be “your Shay” today?
Having been shown and seen an amazing amount of kindness recently I wondered what the world would be like if kindness was everyones number one priority. Then someone sent me the following email. I had already seen it before, however it is a great read so I read it again.

Big “Back Operation” on Thursday
Well tomorrow the big day is finally here. This will be a turning point and assuming everything goes well I can start my physiotherapy and start planning a date to go back to the UK. So far due to my broken L2 vertebrae I have had very limited movement, basically restricted to lying on my back 24 hours a day, which has become boring and frustrating. So I am actually looking forward to the operation. It takes place at 2pm on Thursday (8pm) in UK and will take 4-5 hours.

Another day in bed – not as good as it sounds
I have a catheda (tube attatched to my penis) which means I do not need to leave my bed to go to the bathroom to pass urine. I did get a bed bath by two lovely ladies, while a third watched and took my temperature

9th July – Day 19 – 130 Miles, Merryville LA to Lafayette LA. Started 9.15am, finished 8.30pm
Adrian was a keen cyclist and is unable to cycle now due to ALS. However he is in India having some stem cell treatment. We wish him well and hope he is able to get back on his bike. We will devote tomorrows ride to Adrian and wish him all the best for the future. I have copied and pasted “What is ALS?” from the ALS website...................................................When I hear about people like Adrian, it reminds me how fortunate I am. It makes me appreciate all the things I am able to do, especially the little things I often take for granted like walk, run, cycle.

8th July – Day 18 – 112 miles Shepherd TX to Merryville LA. Started 9.30am, finished 7.30pm.
Good-bye Texas, hello Louisiana (LA), another milestone, another state. Today was a better day, however still a long day. We had relatively flat roads and fairly cool temperatures but we still had the unrelenting wind against us, which kept our pace slow. James was cycling well and took on the hard job of cycling in front while I drafted him. On a positive note the wind kept us cooler.

Day 17 – 7th July – 85 miles. Navasoto TX to Shepherd. Started 9.15am finished 4.pm
Today we took a very scenic route through another nation park. It was another day of wind, rain and hills. At least the rain was warm! We saw 5 dead pigs at the side of the road.

Day 16 – 6th July – 130 miles Austin to Navasoto. Started 7.00am finished 8.45pm
We saw a Roadrunner (bird, like the cartoon) and funnily enough it was running along the road. Then we saw a snake sunbathing on the side of the road............................................................. After putting it back on and attempting to get going again I lost my balance and fell off my bike landing with my full weight onto my hands. Ouch!....................................................... We finally got to the motel at 8.45pm, 13 1/2 hours after we set off. Absolutely shattered
